It is a great pleasure and honor for me to
write a letter of recommendation for Ms. Susmita Barua whom I have known for more than a decade. I learned about her great
commitment to the advancement of women when she joined the “Foundation for Women’s Education in the Rural World”
as an advisory director in 1990. She has contributed enormously to the Foundation by generating new ideas for the enrichment
of educational program at the women’s college founded and operated by the Foundation in Rural India, and writing skills
among the students of this college.
I have no doubt in my mind that she is highly
knowledgeable about the merits and demerits of the social changes, and the problems associated with the implementation of
such changes. I have read several articles written by her on the subject, which energized my colleagues and me enormously
at the Foundation. I have very high regard for her depth of knowledge on the subject and writing skills. We are trying to
bring the social changes to enhance the educational opportunities for the young women born in Rural India, who are highly
restricted by the social norms. We have been very successful in this regard due to the implementation of the ideas generated
by Ms. Barua.
I have been working with her on several projects
sponsored by the Foundation for these many years. I have always appreciated her involvement in various tasks. The most important
quality in her, which impressed me the most was that she never hesitated in accepting the toughest responsibilities and yet
she finished all of them on a very timely basis.
I personally feel that she may excel in her
qualities if she is provided with the opportunities of attending and participating in the conferences and workshops. Also,
her ability to contribute to the advancement of women will enhance a great deal if she may join the group such as “Women
of vision and leadership” and participate in their workshop on leadership. I highly recommend her for the award of grants
so that she may excel in these fields and contribute to the society to her fullest extent. I wish her all the best in this
endeavor.

I have known Susmita Barua for several years
now. Her personality is very different from most people I encounter. She demonstrates a deep level of philosophical thinking
and her mental faculty surpasses that of the general stream of people. It is her mental depth, maturity and her empathic views
on many things coupled with her knowledge in many subjects that drew me close to her. We speak on a wide variety of subjects
covering politics, global issues, feelings, emotions, norms in the society, different culture and such. Her message has always
been that to be able to be and do something one should really desire it first. She says that feelings and desires that arise
spontaneously must be given expression to live a fulfilled life. They need not be inhibited by how others may perceive us
or by what is practical and what is not.
I feel she practices what she teaches about the art of conscious and deliberate living. She has always
conveyed to me that believing in myself and keeping my focus on what I want, will lead me to attain that. Also she encouraged
me to totally let go of my past in order to free my mind and enjoy the present moment fully. I attended her first seminar
and was impressed by her great speaking skills. I believe that she has touched the minds and hearts of many people by her
mentoring, writing and speaking. We are both very concerned about women’s rights and issues and the best ways to parent
our children so they grow up as confident, loving and caring individuals. We both like to nurture our love for poetry, music,
art and literature.
What I find most appealing in Susmita is that she continually challenges her own boundaries and beliefs
and steps outside of them. Her nature reflects peace and quiet confidence, which inspires me to confide in her. She is the
kind of person one would naturally like to talk to and is almost a natural friend and philosopher. I wish her the very best
in whatever she does.
